Tube tops were hot in the early 90’s, so it makes sense that they’re back. As we’ve revisited the 90s, we are now bleeding into the early 2000s. Which is fine with me, as long as low-rise jeans don’t come back anytime too soon!

Back in the day I had a bright coral tube top – could anything be more spring? I loved to wear it under a black blazer or cardigan so that the colour popped.

There’s a common misconception that only busty gals can pull off tube tops, but really the style works well on most frames.  The key is in knowing how to style it, and of course what bra to wear, if any.

 

So how to wear a tube top in 2019?

Here are my top five recommendations:

 

Tube tops worn under denim and leather jackets

My personal favourite update on the tube top is when it’s worn under an oversized, distressed denim jacket. 

 

Tube tops also work well under oversized-bomber jackets and moto jackets.

We are currently carrying this butter-soft, pastel-coloured, vegan-leather jacket. These look gorgeous over our tube tops and add a touch of sophistication.

 Tube tops under overalls

 

Yes, overalls are back! The tube top works well under overalls because of the juxtaposition between the masculine and the feminine.  Also consider wearing your tube top under low cut dresses and tops to replace the bralette or bandeau.

Tube tops paired with high-rise jeans or high-rise, wide-leg pants

 

You can’t go wrong wearing a tube top with your high-rise jeans, but an even more modern update is to pair it with high-rise, wide-leg pants.

Tube tops under Kimonos

 

We will suggest another modern way to wear the tube top is to wear it under a kimono. This look has a very bohemian vibe (think Coachella) and works well on hot summer days.

 

It’s also a great pairing for those of you who are travelling this summer – outfit versatility and pieces that won’t take up a lot of room in your luggage are always essential travel pieces. We always have a wide range of kimonos each summer so you’ll have no problem finding the perfect one.

And you won’t go wrong if you pair this look with frayed, denim cut-off shorts instead of jeans.

Tube tops under blazers or cardigans

A more formal take on the tube top is to pair it under a blazer or a cardigan. This way you can wear it to work and shed the blazer/cardigan as soon as the clock hits 5.   Try wearing it over your button down blouse and add the blazer for a strong, stylish feel. 

So now let’s talk jewellery. Tube tops are practically begging for thin, multi-strand gold and rose-gold necklaces.
